Is it supposed to hurt when I breathe?

How do you spar someone half your age who's been doing it twice as long? You don't, for preference. If you do, don't drop your guard. Bruised ribs hurt. A lot.

I think I'm going to take a liquid painkiller now. In 12oz. bottle form. Maybe two.

No, he has control, he just doesn't USE it. He takes getting hit personally and it all goes downhill from there. What he needs is to relax. We're black belts too, and we're going to get past his defense.

I used to be the only person who'd pair up with the rookie cop, because he had *no* conception of pulling his hits or going for technique over power.

And my suggestion for sparring with somebody half your age and twice your experience is to change arts, and hit them with something they're not expecting. You do Tae Kwon Do, right? That's a ranged standup art, so either switch to Muay Thai and put a hit *right through* his guard, or shoot in, take him down, and wrestle.

I suspect your instructor may not approve.

He's also a sore loser. He doesn't even lose though... he's a bad sport I guess is a better way to say it. =P
