Okay, I'll do the meme as written too...

As was demonstrated in an interview with Katie Couric, Sarah Palin is unable to name any Supreme Court Case other than Roe v. Wade.

The Rules: Post info about ONE Supreme Court decision, modern or historic, to your lj. (Any decision, as long as it's not Roe v. Wade.) For those who see this on your f-list, take the meme to your OWN lj to spread the fun.

Except, I won't do just one:

Loving vs. VA.: struck down miscagenation laws

Lawrence vs. TX: struck down anti sodomy laws

Gideon vs. Fuck If I Remember: established right to counsel

Miranda vs. FIIR (see above): established that you must be informed of your rights

Marbury vs. Madison: established judicial review

DC vs. Heller: yes, you actually do have a right to your second amendment rights

Brown vs. KS Board of Ed.: struck down separate but equal

People vs. Larry Flint: established parody as protected speech

Dred Scott vs. FIIR: upheld slavery return laws if memory serves, but I'm fuzzy on this one, been a long time.

So, I may not be the most informed of people on the street, but I'm pretty sure I far outrank Sarah Palin.

First FIIR: Wainwright, I believe.

Second FIIR: I think Ohio. But I could be confusing that with Terry. *Google* Yep, my bad. It's Miranda v. Arizona, Terry v. Ohio.

I've been ducking this meme for what I think are obvious reasons...I'm quite literally reading dozens of Supreme Court decisions.

Dred Scott was far worse than what you say: the majority decision didn't even try the case, it stated that negroes were not and could never be citizens of the United States, and thus couldn't bring suit in the first place.

(No, this wasn't from memory, I had done some reading on it earlier today.)

Dammit, you took all of mine. Quit hogging all the good Supreme Court cases, Jamie!
