So, I'm not going to work tomorrow. It seems a bit of my trusty ole 97 SC2 that I replaced a meager 25k miles ago (and it took 80k miles to wear out the first time) has once again failed (and 105k service should have been a simple oil change, and yeah, I do get my car serviced by the dealer every 3k like clockwork). Saturn of Sterling's service mangler doesn't work weekends, so they guys yesterday asked if it would be okay if they held off till Monday and got authorization to fix it as a warranty replacement. Well, thanks for the offer, it means I don't have to bring it up first. I may no longer be in my extended warranty period, but goddamnit, you guys just fixed this not that long ago (and yes, Saturn of Sterling did the original repair). I'm gonna buy another ancient Beetle. Sure, it'll be a piece of shit, but I can fix it in the dark with a pair of screwdrivers and a crescent wrench. Fuck, I drove my first bug for 50k miles before it died on me enough to warrant tearing down the engine and doing serious work, and it had 80k miles and was 15 years old when I started driving it.
I hate spending money on shit like that, and if we weren't 11 months from being debt free save for her car, our house, and the monthly utilities (yay, no more student loan payments!), I'd just go buy another car tomorrow morning on the way to work. As it is, I'll just deal with it for another year. By then, I'll have her convinced to let me buy that 330ci convertable I really want.
