We did thirty seconds each of push ups and sit ups at the end of class last night.

I only managed 46 and 43 respectively. I didn't quite make my personal best for either, but I wasn't far, just a few more of each and I'm there. I'd really like to get to 50 of each in thirty seconds. Our goal is to be able to do 60 in 60 seconds for each by black belt (and the black belt minimum requirement is 50 in 60s for each). My flexibility continues to improve. I can spread my legs out to about 110 degrees and put my forehead on the floor. the long term goal there is get the legs in a full 180 split, and be able to lay forward with your stomach flat on the floor. The black belt minimum requirement is what I'm currently doing, but again, the minimum isn't my personal goal here. I'm slowly but surely getting my kicks higher, cleaner, and faster. We were target training last night and I was kicking higher without straining myself than I thought I could if I did push it. This is of course a good thing. From a single step, I can jump, clear 3' straight up, and pull off a decent side kick. Go me.

I set a goal for myself back at the beginning of this year: I wanted to be ready to test for brown belt by the end of the year. I will have met the requirements by the end of next week. I won't be able to test before January, but I'll have been ready by Dec. 20. This is a good thing. I'll probably hold off till February unless Evan catches up with me, I'd like to graduate to Brown with him. He's always happy when we move up together. Testing for Black belt is at least another year away for both of us at a minimum I think. Brown and Novice Black are all that's left, but they can take six and eight months each respectively, and I'm okay with that. Black belt isn't a race. It's not even a final destination. After that you start working towards those second degrees, and then third, etc...

I couldn't fall asleep till sometime after midnight last night, and now I'm all tired. I dislike that with extreme prejudice. I think some nice cold water with a splash of lemon juice would wake me up and get me moving. If that doesn't work, I'll do some jumping jacks or something. Got to keep off the soda. I WILL get my ass down to 155lbs., $DEITY damnit.

Work...ah, the joys of work...

We bought a nice shiny Dell 2001FP LCD for use with our shiny new SGI Tezro 2xR16000, and I don't know what the SGI is sending to it, but the LCD will not display it. Oh well, guess we'll be buying that SGI LCD after all. The Dell FP will find a home, that's not an issue, but it's annoying that Mother Corporate wouldn't spend a few extra hundred dollars on an LCD from SGI to begin with (on a 15k machine, you don't skimp on the display, damnit), so now we'll have bought two instead, and we'll still have spent that money. I'm thinking I might finally move to an LCD flat panel for my desk here at work. Maybe not though...this SGI branded 22" sitting on my desk is clean, crisp, bright, and has black that's actually black. Oh yeah, and it draws about twice as fast as an LCD.

Have I mentioned that I can jump in a full 360 from a low stance, fold in the air, and land in a nice low stance? That's just too fucking cool for words. I LOVE that.
