But, contrary to what you seem to think, the whole of the Commonwealth of VA isn't some redneck backwater.

I don't like Allen either. Really. I voted against him becoming governor after Wilder, and I voted against him for the Senate seat once held by Robb. Twice.

Most of the Commonwealth's population is concentrated in Northern VA, Hampton Roads, and Richmond. Fredericksburg and Roanoke (I include Charlottesville with Richmond due to proximity) are the only other notable population centers. These five areas are generally purple with blue leanings in the north and red in the south, and the empty bits supply the rest of us with food. It's kind of like the US on a smaller scale.

I know, it's just for fun, but man, I've lived here all my life and it's kind of annoying. Funny, but still annoying.

Having lived in the enlightened liberal state of georgia, I sorta agree with John.

Atlanta is NOT representative of the rest of Georgia, and you know it Mr. King.

You can buy likker anywhere in the state on sunday. That state, not this 'un.

More seriously, I see Atlanta as sort of the equivilant of NoVa, the more liberal portion of a less liberal state. Both states are pretty similar on the hilbilly end of the spectrum, but I'd rate Atlanta higher than NoVa in terms of being more cosmopolitan. Of course, Atlanta doesn't have DC right next door providing the museums, theater, and club scenes. If you include DC (and can face the traffic), NoVa improves a lot. More importantly, the speed limit is higher down that a way.

People follow speed limits?

And here I was under the impression, based on local driving habits, that the speed limit was merely a polite suggestion on the part of the commonwealth.

Wait... you mean people CAN follow speed limits, given the crushing traffic of the NoVa/MD border?

Follow? When traffic doesn't have everything at a standstill, doing under 70 on any of the major highways is asking to get run over.
