So, who's coming in April?

The weekend of the 13th was, I believe, what people stated worked the best.

And hey, PARADE! You just have to share the view with a couple hundred thousand of your closest buddies. But there will be cherry blossoms. It shall be pretty.

I realize this is five months away, but [livejournal.com profile] melallen is telling me that really, it's just around the corner. Like, tomorrow even.

I get to play the role of the [livejournal.com profile] prince_corwin or [livejournal.com profile] desdenova, and show up but not have to stay over, as I live in the area. Yay.

But I'll be there for a lot of the weekend.

Hello! For those of us planning on making a mini vacation out of this, we are like 6 months behind on our planning. Because dude, who goes on vacation with only three months notice?

From: [identity profile] thette.livejournal.com

It looks doable for the three of us. I think I'll need to actually start working before I ask for time off, but a week in April (that's not Easter or anything) shouldn't be difficult to get. Tickets are reasonably priced, and we can probably pay them in late February.

Would it be easier for you 3 to stay in a hotel or claim a room in our house? We have 2 'guest bedrooms'. After that you get floor/couch space.
I'm giving those with children priority to a guest bedroom as it has a door so the little ones can sleep better. (hope that doesn't offend anyone)

Oh that doesn't offend me... wait I have children. Mwahahahahaha.

Right now only planning on bringing Corinne. But Hulda DOES need to meet Cooper eventually. Seeing that they are betrothed and all.

Oh, and I can bring a pack & play if Hulda needs one. And I don't mind sharing space if need be.

It's a possibility, but it will depend on how my finances look at the time.

I unfortunately can't plan that far ahead right now. So my response is maybe.

I'm a maybe. Very, very maybe, dependent upon finances and other responsibilities.

What's the closest airport?

From: [identity profile] melallen.livejournal.com

Well, I for one would love for you to come meet the brat(s). I really hope you can make it. We must discuss as the time gets closer :)

IAD.

If Dulles doesn't work for you, DCA isn't far either.

Sadly I have anesthesia board reviews in Nashville that weekend. :(

I'm going to say the same (a bit late, I know). It's possible, but my days off are few until I've been here 6 months, and I'll need several around Memorial Day for sure. We'll see.

We will speak of this again in the New Year.

It's still my intention to come. Drive and provide transportation and stuff, even.

Wow - it took a second to register what this was a reference to. I'd be coming from Durham, NC and I kind of figured there might be some airport transporting needed, if nothing else. If you're somewhere in Virginia along I-95, or along an airport run, it would seem highly probable that a ride would be doable.

Right. I probably should rephrase the question in a more general way...

I'll be based in Millersville - by Lancaster, PA - during that time, visiting a professor there. I've heard enormous amounts about these meetups from [livejournal.com profile] thette, and have been actively prodded to go join in.

However, traveling on all the things I could get someone else to pay for, and living on a grad student's budget, the ~$150 it seems to cost to go down from Lancaster on my own seems slightly stiffer than what I can handle. Hence my sniffing around for someone I could hitch a ride with. (gas sharing tends to come cheaper than the prices cited on AmTrak anyway....)
