We started class last night with a quick warm up, and as part of that we did a minute each of push ups and sit ups. I did okay, managing 71 push ups in 60s and 69 sit ups in 60s. At the 30s mark I was at 42 each, which is slightly slower than my usual pace, but normally we do 30s drills so I was trying to not wear myself out.

Then we did our normal TKD class type things (this week is all about forms, which means this week is all about low stances). I've got my red belt form (Pyungwa, traditional form whose title translates as 'Peace') about 85% memorized, which is good considering I've only had 2 classes on it, now it's just get that last bit and work on cleaning it up over the next few months. I love forms. Forms rock. I can DO forms, and usually do them well.

We ended class with another push up and sit up drill, 30s each. I managed 43 and 39, so nothing spectacular and slightly below my avg of ~44 each in that period.

I was feeling pretty good, so I stayed to take the lower rank class after after the KK class between them, and we started with another 30s push up and sit up drill.

Fifty. One. I managed 51 push ups in 30s. My previous 30s record for push ups was 45, I stomped it. Sit ups were enh, I managed a meager 43, which is 3 short of my record there.

Not all is wonderful though. Pyungwa has a spot in the middle where you're in a low open (aka horse) stance, and you do a 360 degree jump (from the low stance, this is fucking HARD) spinning to the left and land in a low back stance (from your low open stance, point your front foot and front knee at your target; back foot doesn't move). While you're spinning in mid air, you're in a traditional fold (right hand at your throat, open, left hand in a closed fist with your thumb against your right hip) and you chop with the right as you land. Or at least, that's how it's supposed to work. The way I do it involves picking my sorry ass up off the ground at least half the time as I haven't managed to land quite right because I still have too much rotational velocity coupled with the fact that I was to stupid to not keep myself vertical; so now I'm off balance, rotating, and starting to wobble when I then hit the ground and my ankles complain and buckle. By the end of the night, my left ankle was a little iffy. I think I strained it a bit. Nothing serious, it feels perfectly normal this morning, but it was mildly unhappy last night. Just as an experiment, I was doing 360 jumps from a normal standing position to the left and the right. Once again, it's my left that's fucking with me. I need to just ignore the fact that I can't see and stop trying to force my head around. I can do these jumps to the right everytime in a low or high stance and get a full 360 while keeping myself in proper posture. Damn you left eye!
