I know, we've only been sending mail to various Pentagon Agencies and Organizations from this address for over two years now, but what does that have to do with anything?
I got email this morning from cert.mil complaining that they got 10 connections to port 25 from our firewall over the weekend. My immediate thought was that my coworkers must be slacking (by their usual insane standards) if they only sent out 10 pieces of email to the customer over the weekend, but since the DoD CERT didn't bother to tell me what bit of .mil doesn't want email from us, I can't exactly find out who's sending it and why. I mean, shit, it's not like I have an MX host here that handles thousands of pieces of mail here everyday or anything. Oh wait, I DO, in point of fact, have just such a host.
Bu hey, you guys over there at the DoD, don't bother to provide me with any info about which hosts I'm connecting to on your end or anything, so that I can maybe dig through the logs and maybe find out who's sending what to whom. We've only been a contractor for 26 years now, and hey, we're even part of Raytheon these days, who've been a contractor even longer, but don't let little things like facts get in the way of your simple minded stupidity.
Can someone PLEASE fire up the defibrilator on the telecomms sector? Pretty please? At least it'd be a different kind of stupidity, and usually one that's fixable with withdrawal of funds or application of lawyers. The DoD is immune.
