scifantasy Frank's Journal, there is much early 20s psychodrama exhibiting itself for no particular reason other than that's what early 20 somethings DO.
Going back and reading over it though, I'm reminded of a mindset that just annoys the shit out of me. What I'm reminded of are the people who referred to themselves as 'straight edge' in the late 80s and early 90s. For the most part they were sanctimonious and whiny pricks who either got over it, or became the sort of people who you see on your door step and immediately think of what line would be best to scare them off (Hey, we need a sacrifice for our ceremony, can you come back on Tuesday of next week? KTHXBYE!) Dude, I'm happy for you that you don't drink, take drugs, use bad language, et-fucking-cetera, but you know what? I don't care about your thoughts on the fact that I do. If I did, I'd kick your ass until you either shut the fuck up or recited the godsdamned opinion I think you should be holding anyway. Go listen to some Fugazi and cry or something, but do it somewhere ELSE. And take this awful shit you call music with you; it fucking blows.
It also lead me to finally figure out why the neocons aggravate me so much. They're like the straight edge whiners, but without enough balls to even rebel halfway, and they just can't handle that other people do. Oh yes, and a political presence. Whining busybodies with an agenda. Just what the world needs less of. Real conservatives aren't interested in who you're fucking, what you're drinking, or what you're snorting, smoking, or shooting up, they just want to profit from it with as little interference and taxation as possible. Social programs are acceptable so long as they are within budget. Religion is your problem; it's not their soul, and thusly not their problem. They'd play religious on TV because it got them voted for, but they had vices and mistresses on the side. They were people. Neocons are like Stepford Wives, perfect little robots doing exactly what they're programmed to do, who want to turn the rest of us into something just like them. Fuck 'em.
