This MC Hammer moment brought to you by the nice people.

Last night, I braved traffic, and crossed the Potomac. This doesn't happen often, but [livejournal.com profile] silmaril, [livejournal.com profile] montoya, [livejournal.com profile] annewashere, Breno (AKA: Brazilian Eye Candy to the ladies), and I were having dinner together, since [livejournal.com profile] montoya and [livejournal.com profile] annewashere are on vacation and in town.

It took me an hour and ten minutes to make the trip from Reston, VA to College Park, MD, the first 45 minutes of which were spent just trying to get into Maryland. The trip home later took less than half an hour. Some days, I think the post-nuclear wasteland of every 80s era sci-fi B movie would be an improvement.

I was about five minutes late, but still the first to arrive (excepting [livejournal.com profile] silmaril, since it was her apartment we were meeting at, so she was already there of course). [livejournal.com profile] montoya and [livejournal.com profile] annewashere showed up a few minutes later and we were off since Breno was still at work and meeting us at the restaurant. [livejournal.com profile] montoya ordered half a chicken and most of a steer on a plate for dinner. [livejournal.com profile] annewashere had the Shepherd's Pie, which looked awesome. [livejournal.com profile] silmaril had something with coconut on, which makes the rest of the contents of the plate irrelevent as coconut is Evil and Must Not Be Consumed. I went with simple and just had a burger. I considered the Shepherd's Pie, but I wasn't all that hungry. Damn near everything had Old Bay on it, but we were in Maryland, so that was to be expected. It was good though. I would never have thought to sprinkle Old Bay on onion rings, but it worked amazingly well.

After dinner we all headed back to [livejournal.com profile] silmaril's for some hanging out and chatting. Much merriment ensued as we had this Final Fantasy movie (not The Spirits Within, something new) on in the background, which we mocked incessently while we chatted. It was about a guy riding a motorcycle from Akira, fighting the Fist of the North Star's arch enemy and Blade with a sword bigger than he was, with occasional help from his friends, the cast of Vampire: 90210, in The Matrix while the kids Mad Max left behind were trying to rebuild Neo-Tokyo. There was no tentacle sex with demons, but people did have buildings dropped on them, and there was nonsense Japanimation pseudo-mysticism and plenty of explosions, so it met enough of the standard criteria to be judged as totally awesome, despite being totally silly. The people were all rendered with normal eyes though. That's the one drawback to CGI japanimation, no more eyes the size of dinner plates. The people did have impossible hair styles in colors that don't exist in the real world, so at least we haven't lost that.

There's a bit of lyric from this song that makes me think of Bush and his little crew:

We drink elixirs that we refine
from the juices of the dying
We are no monsters, we're moral people
and yet we have the strength to do this
This is the splendour of our achievement
Call in the airstrike with a poison kiss

They really don't see themselves as evil.
