So it seems I have the beginnings of arthritis in my hips, if the X ray films are to be believed. The ball at the top of the thigh bone on both sides looks fine, but the sockets on both hips have a bit of spurring just along the edge.
My right hip has a couple small bone chips outside the joint, and it has a very defined spur on the joint edge. The doc said it looks like an old injury, but I've never hurt my right hip that I can recall. I went down on the left when I dropped my bike a decade ago, and my left hip is in much better shape than the right. The left only just has the beginning of a spur, and it's also the much better kicking leg than the right one. Too bad I can't SEE on that side.
It's still so minor that if I weren't doing a martial art, I'd never notice. I'm not about to quit over this, so continue to notice will I. Sorry, was having a Yoda moment there.
He said I'm likely going to need joint replacements in about 20 years or so, but going in and trying to dig out the chips and remove the spur on the right would do more damage and leave me worse than I am now. Guess I'll be hitting the geriatric aisle in the pharmacy and grabbing some arthritis meds (any NSAID should work, but I'd like ones that are meant for longer term use in the interest of not destroying my GI track).
