With apologies to Anne and Nancy Wilson, you must imagine a heavy baseline and a screeching guitar in conjunction with the title.
Okay, so I watched a large chunk of Ms. Palin's speech last night. She got deservedly shit canned when Stewart came on.
So far, color me unimpressed. Even preaching to the choir, a lot of the delegates in that crowd were very lackluster in their reception of her, with some looking downright hostile.
People talk about her being hot. Sorry, as much as I love Tina Fey and I can see the resemblance, she really doesn't actually look like her and if that is the Republican standard for a hottie, they need to get out more. Of course, her looks are as relevant to her ability as John McCain's five year stint in Hanoi is to his, so I'll comment no more on that.
In all reality, there's no fucking way in hell this chick is EVER going to see me vote for her. I don't vote for Jesus Freaks. Hell, it's a sticking point for me with Obama too. Shut the fuck up about the god thing already, all of you.
If you didn't watch Stewart last night, by the way, you missed out on what I consider one of his best bits ever. The montage (w/ commentary) on the Right Wing hypocrisy was just flat out fantastic.
I don't want to hear from another right wing asshole about Obama's lack of experience ever again. Really. You're claiming a woman who ran a town smaller than quite a few high schools and a state with a population smaller than ANY DC suburb has sufficient experience to run this country when McCain keels the rest of the way over in short order is qualified, and this is laughable.
Next up, Bristol. Yes, I WILL go there. You want to force abstinence only sex ed, when your own child is an object of that failure? You have two more behind her, and we'll see how long it takes them to get knocked up before graduation too. We're going for %100 failure rate here. Don't let me down ladies, I'm counting on you and I KNOW you can do this. In the mean time, I'm going to point at your sister while laughing at your mother.
Speaking of drilling and filling, we'll move on to offshore and ANWR. Can we stop talking about this like it's going to save us from Johnny Arab already? Seriously? We don't have the refining capacity or the carrying capacity for this to matter in a time frame that any of us can realistically care about. I'm all for increasing our ability to extract and refine petroleum, but it's a ten year plan, not a next year solution. It's also short term relative to the bigger picture. Keep it in the ground and burn EVERYONE else's supply first. Or, you know, stop burning it. There's so much cooler shit you can do with petroleum other than burning it.
Since we're blowing shit up, it's terrorism time.

Don't talk to me about terrorism like it's a real threat. Yeah yeah, it was a shitty day, and a bunch of people died and that's sad and it sucks for them and their families. Guess what? It's not a threat I give a fuck about. I've said many times, and will continue to say that airport security is a fucking joke because it's ineffective, it's stupid, and is nothing less than another excuse to strip us of a few more of our rights. It's also pointless. That attack vector is CLOSED. Never again will the passengers on any plane sit idly by while it's hijacked. The default assumption changed from 'sit quietly and cooperate and you'll probably be okay' to 'kill the mother fuckers before they kill us, oh and we outnumber them by most of a plane load'.
The conventions are very different in tone. The Democrats we're mostly talking about how bad off the country is after eight years of Republican rule, and how they intend to fix that. The Republicans were ignoring the last eight years, don't mention Bush's name, and are trotting out the usual tripe about how the Dems will tax you to death, let the commies/terrorists/pick_your_opponent take over, while banning all religion. It's pretty sad when you can't acknowledge your current party leader because he's such an embarrassing fuck up.
Of course, the Dems have the ultimate weapon. They can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory no matter how bad the other side fucks up. Expect it.

I was raised in the Catholic Church, but I haven't been a believer since I was eleven.
John Stewart's used McCain's constant referring to his POW status as the basis for his quip about Guantanamo being a Leadership Camp as opposed to a detention facility for enhanced interrogation.
