I think my thermostat in the cooling system of my car has stopped working. The temperature gauge used to measure engine temp at about dead center of the range year round in any weather. Recently, it barely gets above cold engine start temperature. If it had to stick, at least it's stuck open. Overheating, especially when I'd be stuck on the side of the road in twenty degree weather, would SUCK.

I'm just glad I have heated seats, as the car isn't cold inside, but it's not exactly warm either.

I wonder if my warranty covers this (I'm off the initial factory which covered everything except tires, and they meant everything, and on an extended warranty now)? Probably not, but thermostats are usually cheap. I'll have to call BMW of Sterling and find out. Bummer.

You needed to make a maintence appointment anyways didn't you?

I got about 1700 miles before it needs to go in according to the computer in the car. Driving around with the thermostat open won't hurt anything, the engine just doesn't ever get to its optimal running temperature. It's a minor annoyance for now.
