There's a ton of irony involved in actions taken by environmental weenies, who claim to be asking us to be thinking of the consequences of our actions, not looking at the consequences of theirs. They're just looking for quick conscience relief.
As far as I can tell, most environmentalist weenies get their start as canvassers while in college (we've all seen the ads). They aren't scientists and seem to think that any well-intentioned change to the status quo is positive just because it means well.
Well, this is a bit of a special case if you believe that dolphins are humans, only more so than most of us. And this is not an uncommon beleaf on the outer branches of environmentalism.
The movement as a whole (as with most movements) could regain quite a bit of credibility by strangling the most extreme 10% of its members.
About three times.
My particular irritation is power generation. I've seen perfectly safe nuclear technologies get shut down because they're scaaaary and nuuuuclear. Okay, whatever. I've seen wind projects get shut down because birds might get killed. I've seen wave projects get shut down because they're annoying to Kennedy and other large slow-moving aquatic mammals. I've seen solar photovoltaic and solar thermal projects get shut down because deserts are now considered scarce environmental resources.
At some point, "Your new power plant must be environmentally friendly," degenerates into Lucy holding the football for Charlie Brown. But meanwhile, we'll keep the coal and oil plants going, because we've already built those and won't shut them down if it means turning the lights out.
