Several of you on my f-list have weighed in on the season, and I've either avoided those posts or weighed in with snark. I do feel like making a bit of commentary on this time of year, however.
I love this time of year. As long as you stay out of the mall, people are generally polite and happy and giving most everyone they meet, even total strangers, good wishes. I'd prefer the whole year carried that attitude, but it seems we can't manage it as a society for more than about five weeks and then we're spent, so I'll take what I can get.
Of course, the nutjobs on both ends of the spectrum come out and get even more vocal during the holiday season too, but they can be mocked for your enjoyment or safely ignored.
I'm not religious. For me, Christmas is a time to spend with friends and family. I don't get in to the religious aspects (Christian or pagan) of this time of year. They aren't important to me.
I like seeing the kids and their shameless joy at getting presents. Yeah, we're spoiling the little bastards, but it's still fun to watch.
