I just love when I'm expected to provide things, but NO ONE FUCKING BOTHERS TO TELL ME!

My morning started off nice. Drove in to work with the top down and the music up; it was a balmy 78F at 6:30AM EDT. Traffic wasn't heavy and moved right along. All in all, not a bad way to start the day.

At 10 after 7 I get a call from the front desk. Honeywell is here, they're making changes to our alarm system and supposedly I know about this phone line that they need. I do? I wasn't here all last week, and hey, no one bothered to send me mail or talk to me about this. Had they done so, I could have told them that we have ZERO unassigned DIDs. I also need a 25' Cat5 cable to run the cross connect, which I used the last of the week before last. None of our (A)FSO's are awake and answering phones yet this morning, so Honeywell go bye bye, said call them when we have what they need.

I did have one chat with one of our security folks on this topic 3 weeks ago, but at the time, nothing was set and they weren't yet sure what they were going to need. Guys, if you make plans while I'm not around, don't expect me to just know that you've included me. I'm not omniscient, despite appearances to the contrary.

Plus, you don't really want to run a phone line for the alarm system through a PBX. I can be done for testing purposes, but it needs a dedicated phone line from the telco, which takes them weeks to install.

Normally I'd agree, but the alarm just needs an analogue circuit, and can be programmed to dial the appropriate out code. They need a DID to be able to dial in to the alarm system for maintenance purposes. The PBX is sitting on a nice big APC Matrix, so I'm not worried about power outages. I can't compete with a telco CO for battery and genset, but if I have to worry about 96+ hour outages in Rosslyn, we've got other problems.

I didn't worry so much about the PBX losing power, but having something inside the PBX itself fail, like the analog line card or a port on that card. Highly unlikely to happen, but I still didn't want my PBX to be the point of failure.
