So, I finally got around to ordering the bits to upgrade my machine at home. NewEgg should be happy at me:

Case

Power Supply

Motherboard

Memory

Processor

Hard Drive

Graphics Adapter

The rest of what's needed will come out of my existing machine. I need to get a PATA to SATA adapter (serillel I believe is the canonical term) as I have three PATA devices (LS-120, Pioneer A07 DVD+/-RW, 80GB Maxtor ATA133 HDD) but the motherboard will only take two of them natively. My 80GB SATA HDD and the Plextor PX-716SA DVD+/-RW DL will happily plug in to ye ole motherboard directly. Coincidentally, a machine I built this morning just happens to have the exact same model of hard drive I just ordered in it, and holy shit it's fast.

I didn't bother getting a new sound card, but I'll update the Audigy Platinum I'm currently using to an X-Fi eventually. My 19" OptiQuest is still bright and clear, despite being 9 years old, so no new monitor, and my mouse and keyboard are less than a year old, so they'll be just fine too.

[livejournal.com profile] silmaril, once I move some parts from my current machine in to the other desktop in the house, I'll have an extra gig of DDR-400 (PC 3200) RAM (2x512MB) and nothing to plug it in to...I believe you have a pair of spare memory slots those can go in?
