I told Master Lightfoot I wanted to defer testing for Novice black, as I didn't feel I was ready yet. He was cool with that; he said there was no rush. Black belt is a journey, an end, and a beginning. I could likely have passed tomorrow, but it would have only been by a very small margin, and since this is the last testing and graduation I'll do in our dojang, I'd like to try for outstanding. It also gives Evan some extra time to catch up, and he's been practicing just about daily since school let out, and it's definately showing up in class.

Testing for Black belt (and higher degrees) is done by a panel of instructors from all the local schools in another location. It's a little over a half year away if I stay on schedule (and deferring Novice black a month shouldn't have much real impact on that). It's kind of scarily close as long as I keep working at it and don't injure myself.
