So, Radiohead are supposed to be the greatest band since, like, ever, according to many, and change the whole face of Rock 'n Roll. I like Radiohead, and while they've had an obvious effect on Coldplay (who I think do that whole sound better personally), in general, I don't see much effect over the spectrum.

This is just a random thing that went through my head when the song I'm currently listening to started coming across the streaming feed, and I thought I'd share.

Comments?

EDIT: And yeah, I do know that thinking Coldplay are a better Radiohead than Radiohead makes me guilty of some sort of sin according to some people. Sounds like a personal problem on their part from here.

So which genre or subgenre did Radiohead invent or define?

There's only a few bands that have changed the face of rock - The Beatles (weren't they the first megastars?), Black Sabbath (along with Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple they invented heavy metal), The Sex Pistols (they may not have invented punk, but they sure are what everybody first thinks of). There's a few others I'd like to mention, but then we're getting into the whole subgenre thing.

Yeah, I think both Radiohead and Coldplay are quite good, but I can't see that we'd have lost out big without them.

1. "OK Computer" was probably the best rock album of the nineties.
2. "Kid A" onward don't sound much like "OK Computer" at all.
3. Coldplay sounds a bit like "OK Computer"-era Radiohead, sort of. Except flabbier and much, much more boring. I think they're terrible, myself.

See, and I think you're on crack.

I have quite a few albums from that decade I think are better than any of Radiohead's releases.

Don't even bother. I made some faintly disparaging comments towards Radiohead a while back, and there was much [livejournal.com profile] aorly indignation. I think he secretly hates me now. Whee!

Thhbbt.

(If it makes you feel any better, I have greater tolerance for the Radiohead on my iPod than I used to. And "Talk Show Host" is an awesome, awesome song.)

Thing is, I LIKE Radiohead, I just don't get the obsession I've seen over them. The music is good, but I've got a lot of other stuff I prefer over it.

There are some things in life, my dear Bowden, that we are just not meant to comprehend, and rabid Radiohead reverence is one of them. So it goes.
