When did it become okay to talk about what kinds of torture we should be using? Did I miss a memo? Seriously. I know I'm late to this topic; I've been kind of hoping the voices of sanity would prevail, but now Junior is a very short step from calling Powell a terrorist sympathizer for daring to ask if maybe we're going about things in a manner that is less than ethical or effective.

You know, Colin Fuckin' Powell, former Chairman of the Joint Cheifs? Junior's first term Secretary of State?

Why does ANYONE still support this man? He has gutted our intelligence capabilities in the name of party loyalty, he won't listen to anyone who isn't kissing his ass, and he has no grasp of what the fuck is really going on in the world. The first two thirds of that sentence explains the last, but it doesn't excuse it.

I just don't get it.

Start listening to Keith Olbermann. He's been on a rampage lately. Try starting with this:

It will at least make you feel that you are not alone.

Just imagine what things will be like after the next successful terrorist attack.

On a related topic, does anyone think that the widespread and readily available ability to vent one's spleen on the internet is part of the reason why people aren't actively protesting this stuff on a large scale, as I thought people would be by now?

I just watched an episode of Boston Legal (one of my favourites shows) all about the apathy of the American people towards the chisseling away of civil rights and it occured to me that yeah, people don't seem to care too much about the use of torture by their governments.

Is it really because we're scared of terrorists? Or does it just not encroach on our day-to-day lives so we don't worry about it?

Also, as something of an aside, does anyone else think that 9/11 managed to achieve exactly what the terrorists hoped to achieve? Crappy American economy, shitty President in for another term, overextended military, and general ill-sentiment towards Americans from the global community. But if 9/11 happened again, I'm pretty sure America would have to have exactly the same reaction again.

Not enough soldiers coming home in bodybags, an all-volunteer army rather than a draft, and no iconic images like that photo of Kim Phuc, just to name a few contributions.

But really, it's the Vietnam war that was an anomaly in the protest thingies, there was no widespread dissatisfaction worldwide with participation in WWI and II.
