So, our district got Better Known by Colbert last night. I need a Google Earth plug in that will overlay Congressional districts. The shape of our district is distinctly fucked up. It manages to include a large swathe of Fairfax County, but leaves out some odd bits. It's totally gerrymandered. It's also, if Colbert can be believed, the wealthiest district in the country. I was surprised by that. I'd have expected one of CT's or MA's districts to own that title, being the two wealthiest states, or possibly one of the more expensive bits of the greater L.A. Metro area, seeing how it's filled with Hollywood types and all.

The Hollywood types don't live in the LA metro area. They live in the Hills and other surrounding burbs. I dare say they've managed to spread themselves out enough to minimize their effect on most stats.

I was thinking of Beverly Hills, in particular, or Malibu. Not LA proper, but definitely still in the LA area.

Yeah, I thought CT-4 (Greenwich, mostly) was the wealthiest. It may depend how you count--one may win on wealth while the other wins on income.

There's also total money floating around vs. per capita, which can be analysed re: wealth or income separately, too.

ISTR reading somewhere that McLean is the wealthiest zip code in the US.

I would expect Great Falls to have more money than McLean. McLean definitely isn't poor, but it lacks the $10M+ estates that are the price of entry to live in Great Falls.
