A more wretched hive of scum and villainy...well, would be a great place to throw a social, and some of you have expressed interest.

So, when? What are people's thoughts on a good time?

After mid July is the only preference so far expressed, which is fine. Any others out there who'd be interested and want to chime in?

I'm also going to post to the [livejournal.com profile] dfs community, so some of you will see this twice, but there are folks there who don't necessarily read my inanity (and really, those of you who do, can you blame 'em?)

Not [livejournal.com profile] dfs, I think; [livejournal.com profile] darkfriends is probably the most complete and active DF community.

I think fall would be a good time for a DC Social, myself. Better weather, nice tree colors, and a general sense of restored equilibrium after summer.

They both get the same amount of traffic; which is to say - NONE.

dfs was set up for a Vegas social. I don't really care if it's used to organize other socials.

4th of July on the Mall is always fun, btw.

Traffic, sure; but I was thinking more in terms of membership...

Generally, my travel is very limited to begin with, this year more so as I don't have vacation time accumulated, have to get the driveway repaved, and I'm scheduled to host two Socials - Labor Day weekend and the weekend of October 26th - 28th.

A visit from me may not be in the cards financially, but if the stars align properly, I'll certainly try!

A chance to get back to DC would be great -- any time in the fall, I think? Other than Labor Day, obviously.

September = Labor Day Social
October = Halloween Social
November = Thanksgiving
December/January = Christmas + New Year

That leaves August. And August is Hot. It's hard to plan a social in the latter half of the year. The months that lack socials are typically February, March & April. But I would think March & April see an influx of spring breakers, so plane fares would be high and attractions crowded. And February may be Cold?

I'm not being much help here, am I?

Me too, except I'm not even sure I can make it to all that stuff. Too much want, not enough take or have.

Alas, not this year. Maybe next?

I'll be employed, have oodles of money (well, compared to what I have now, at least), real vacation time and Hulda will be old enough to be left with her grandparents or brought along.

If people can't get here till next year, so be it. That doesn't mean we can't all start planning and scheduling now...in fact, it'd probably make things easier for everyone.

Ah, I see you subscribe to the Maggie Philosophy of Social Planning! There's a reason I plan so far in advance. These things can be some WORK!

Set a date!

Bring the kid! Kids are more than welcome. Having one ourselves, we have a very kid friendly, toy filled house :)

Oops - answered in the other post first - isn't the Cherry Blossom Festival in April? That could be a nice time, if doing it soon doesn't work out.

As a data point, when we decided to have a random party in April many people seemed to be ready for one.

We usually do a smaller one in late July as well. (A^3 DFS as it is usually dubbed)

Maggie's right - I so need to move back up to the midwest. Notwithstanding my collusion in this Washington thing.
