He kinda left us all long ago, though. Apparently, we're all "Internet People" and thus not real, and thus one can sever all ties with us without so much as a goodbye because we have no feelings.
I had a beer with him at the WorldCon in 2005, and he would have shown up at the DFS dinner if his wife hadn't had passport troubles that needed taking care of. I didn't get those vibes at all.
I'm going off of two sets of bitterness here: 1) Reading him calling LiveJournal a cult on his web page, and 2) his disappearance from the forums without really even a goodbye, or chatting with people who knew him. Not as bad as Flavio Carillo, but close!
