So, four years ago this October, we were acquired. We've been mostly left alone, but as I suspected, that had a lot to do with some of the details of the acquisition. Those 'details' expire in October, and surprise, we're on track to become fully integrated.

Let's see, our health care is about to get more expensive, and be worse. I'm losing two weeks of leave per annum. Retirement benefits are a downgrade. Oh, and let's not forget, internal IT is outsourced to a fucking competitor, who I won't work for because they're even worse.

Why am I still here again?

Anyone need a Unix/Linux/Windows sysadmin in Reston, VA with a TS/SCI?

How far, if at all, are you willing to relocate? I've got some contacts in Toronto who were trying to headhunt me a few months ago, and I know you're better qualified than I am.

Really, moving isn't an option at this point. Our house won't sell in the current market. Even if we could move, I'm sooo not moving to Canada. It's already too cold here, and I'm still south of the Mason-Dixon line. Winters in Canada? Not happening.

Toronto's got this massive body of water right next to it, and tends to be pretty mild because of it (and in Vancouver and Victoria, they hardly know what snow *is*), but the house no-selling is bad.

also, french-canadians. they're french AND canadians. does it get worse than that?

:)

Vancouver's weather is pretty good. And we could use a sysadmin where I work.

Canada really isn't an option. And, we'd really like to stay here. As Jamie said, we had the house on the market, and even dropped it a bit and it still wouldn't sell (and we just wanted to move into something smaller, not HAVING to sell).
And then there's the kiddo - he's doing better than I ever thought in the public school system - it's one of the tops, and he's in a self-contained GT program and thriving - private school isn't even an option in most places as it would have to be major excellerated, and then there'd be the tuition bill
And, I've got 3 more classes needed for my BCBA, and there are few programs in the country for it.
Then there's TKD.
Somehow in the past few years, we've actually gotten stuck here and it would take quite a bit to get us to relocate.
But, thanks anyways!!

I figured moving probably wasn't an option, given the way he worded that, but it was worth a mention.

A chance to move to Vancouver might be worth incurring the lease breaking costs!

Ah, that sucks. I'd be most upset about losing the 2 weeks leave yearly, but the rest is all bad too.

We found out this week that they're changing our healthcare provider on us. I haven't gone through the info yet to see if the new providers/package options are better or worse. I do know that only the most expensive new package has my GP in-network.

If you decide working in Maryland would be a possibility, let me know. I'm assuming not, since you stated Reston VA.

3. you are not allowed to smoke within 6 meters of the entrance, a vent, or an openable window into a public builing
4. you are not allowed to amoke inside a car if there is a small child inside the car
5. reailers are not allowed to display any tobacco prodcuts.

My understanding is that two species of creature live in canada: bears and french-canadians. Well, and perhaps the occasional french-canadian-bear spawned from really long winters.

ARE YOU SAYING THE INTERTV IS FULL OF LIES?

Given that they apparently haven't told you about the deadly Trap-door Moose or the Jesus Leopard? Yes.

1, 2, and 3 are already rules in Chicago, and I don't find them that terrible. I find four to be a pleasing ordinance, and 5 is ...weird.

I'll check with my company (CNSI) but I think we're mostly a windows shop. SAIC was hiring in Reston recently, if they aren't the ones you won't work for you should apply there. EES may be hiring but stay away from 1 source. CNSI isn't a bad company to work with. I would definitely try Unisys though. They were a decent company to work for and they do a lot of DOD work.

If I see anything specific for a sysadmin I'll let you know. I saw one the other day at Sun but I'm not sure what city it was in.

Not that I've been looking for a job you understand. I'm just keeping an ear out, uh, for, uh, justin case. Honest.
