What country to Republicans run away to when their guy loses?

At least I don't have to listen to people threatening to move to Canookistan, but the lamentations of the right leaning folks in the office should be interesting this morning once they start filtering in.

In point of fact, a guy on the radio last night (who literally said, "I'm not racist: my best friend is black!") said he was going to move to Canada. The host of the show was too focussed on the political side of the discussion to ask the obvious question, alas.

Generally Canada, not that this makes any sense.

One of my friends from college kept threatening to run to Canada if Clinton was elected in 1992. Needless to say, he didn't do that any more than Democrats actually ran to Canada in 2000 or 2004.

I am giving some consideration to Australia - although I was planning to do so regardless whether McCain or Obama won (because I expect the next 5 to 10 years here to be a disaster no matter what). I would not claim that Australia is exactly more conservative on average than the US (although, in a number of regards, it is - but in a number of other regards it's considerably more liberal) but at least it doesn't seem to be moving rapidly further left. Furthermore, religious conservatives (who I do not like and do not see eye-to-eye with) are a rarity there. Finally, but probably most importantly, economic fundamentals in Australia are strong (the country in general always runs both a government surplus and a current account surplus).

Although Canada has yet to quite equal Europe in its degree of lean to the left, it's fairly close. It's also too close (literally) to the US... and then there's the perennial conflict between Francophones and Anglophones. No thanks.

It would be interesting to see what Republicans are saying today.

However, I won't really get to hear the day to day office comments. Because people who were genuinely interested in the American elections AND McCain supporters would be almost impossible to find here.

Add my father to the list of McCain supporters grumbling about moving to Canada. I don't think it's supposed to make sense. :/
