Seriously, FOUR? It took four hours to drive from Reston to FedEx Field for last night's U2 concert. If they hadn't started late, instead of missing the opening act (Muse, whoever the hell they are) and the first U2 song, we'd have missed half the main act. Google Earth is confirming the route I took as the shortest at 37.4 miles (with an estimated driving time of 46 minutes, ha ha, I gave us two hours) by taking the Dulles Toll Road to the Capitol Beltway and taking the north side of the beltway to the stadium exits for the north side parking lots.

Dear Maryland: Fuck you and your lack of capacity (we were moving fine until we crossed the Potomac, then everything went to shit, and it was primarily normal commuter traffic).

At least it was a good show.

Dude, I guess U2 is OK, but I wouldn't be surprised if their "opening act" blew them away...

Agreed. Muse is by far the best band that I have ever seen live.

Wow... the only traffic we hit was due to traffic lights on the route we took and we got there in probably 3 hours, and had time to eat some food and find our seats before Muse came on.

HOLY CRAP I would want to kill in that kind of traffic.

Apparently we missed an incredible show by Muse. In fact, on the radio people were calling in saying they went for Muse, and left afterwards. Dude - you had seats and didn't bother staying for U2?!?

Welcome to the DC area. Have a coke and a snarl, someone will be around later to sue you.

I've always hated that aspect of the DC area. Any trip can go bad, and take hours longer than it should. If you are going to an event, the odds go way up. I've been massively late or missed enough events that I am totally discouraged from attempting to do anything that invovles going into DC or MD.

For what it's worth, there WAS an accident on that side of the Beltway a bit north of the exits to Fedex field (although it was cleared to the shoulder by the time I passed that area in the other direction just before 5 pm). Still, the stretch of the Beltway Inner Loop from the Legion Bridge to Exit 19 seems to often have problems even on a normal evening rush hour.
