You'd think something as simple as a fucking RS232 port would be easy. I mean, it's only been standardized since the fucking 1960s. But no, I need to call my Avaya sales weenie and order a special goddamned cable from them, because using a standard fucking pin out on a 1200 baud serial port was not something they were capable of doing.
AT&T, Lucent, now Avaya; it doesn't matter what they call themselves, they're still a huge pain the ass to deal with and haven't figured out that they aren't the only phone company on the goddamned planet. No wonder their stock is in the toilet and their market share is sinking faster than the Titanic.
And what does this magic serial port do, you ask? It puts out straight ASCII text which is a log of all calls in or out at a blazing 1200 baud. The rest of the planet moved to 9600 baud serial ports for consoles in the 1980s, but our 9 month old $100,000 phone switch does a whopping 2400 baud on its master console port (which requires special cable and special software to talk to, because using a straight ASCII text interface for configuration on a standard serial port would be normal, and we just can't have that, now can we?), and a whole 1200 baud on its SMDR port.
Fuck it, I'm done with this for today, I'll call those pigfuckers later this morning so I can order the $0.50 adapater which I'm sure I'll have to give them $30 for.
Fuck it, have a meme:
Fucking phone companies...one day, every last telco weenie on the planet...up against the wall.
