These are the rules I posted on my sister in law's dorm room door when she started at american.edu back in 1997. I think these are superior to the rules that govern the book meme, so I post them here in order of importance, from most to least:

1: Do not get dead.

2: Do not get diseased.

3: Do not get pregnant.

For a new freshman college student, those rules are really all they need to know to not totally FUBAR their lives. Even 3 can be worked around, but it adds a huge burden that most will not overcome so it's best avoided.

This was in response to the 'grab the nearest book, open to page foo, count to line bar...' meme.

The most common opener for that seems to be: 'The Rules'

I was merely pointing out to people that they were in error in doing so.
