I've never really thought much about throwing a social.

I mean, who wants to come to DC? There's nothing here.

Well, except for the museums, the zoo, the monuments, the center of our govt., the theaters, the battlefields, the food, and maybe some other stuff I've forgotten. It's not a place we get many tourists or anything.

In all reality, unless you've got a car, most of that stuff just isn't accessible from my house. I love living in the 'burbs, but it does mean that the Metro, in one of it's few useful configurations (if you want to get to DC's attractions, the Metro is fantastic, but you have to go to it), isn't a mere few blocks blocks north.

I live 7 minutes from Dulles (IAD), 15 in traffic. I'm 15 minutes from the Vienna metro station, which you can get to from National (DCA) with no problem. Both of those require driving, though.

I live here.

We're talking serious suburbia. Picket fences, 2.4 kids, dogs, cats, manicured lawns, SUVs, the whole suburban enchilada. I have the space to throw a party. I've got room for people to sleep. I'm just not easy to get to.

I also have no clue when I'd do it. The next long weekend is the July 4th one, and you DON'T want to be in DC in July. It's hot, it's humid, and on that particular weekend, the place is packed. They throw great fireworks in the air right over the Potomac so the mall has the optimal view. And you only have to share that view with 500,000+ of your closest friends. Oh, and I'll be down in Williamsburg, so you'd be sleeping on the driveway.

I'd love to have people over. I'm just not sure when. Also, if you weren't staying here, the nearest hotels are in Reston, Herndon, Fair Lakes, and Chantilly. Oh, and thanks to proximity to Dulles and every tech company and defense contractor known to man being located all over this end of Fairfax Co., none of them are of the particularly inexpensive variety.
