I haven't posted in a few days, so a quick update.

The weather is wonderful, I've been driving around top down and loving every minute of it. Shame about those folks in the upper plains. The rivers should be subsiding though, and hopefully crop production issues should be localized to those discrete areas.

I'm still working my way through the DVD collection on the big screen. LoTR:FotR looked fantastic, Baraka was gorgeous, and the kiddo was watching SW:tPM the other day and it may be a bad movie, but damn it's pretty. Buckaroo Banzai and Big Trouble in Little China are as fun as ever, but even more awesome.

I need to call Verizon and get an HD box from them for that TV. Then just leave it on Discovery, Animal Planet, or National Geographic HD for a while and enjoy the view.

It's also tempting to drag my computer upstairs and see just how awesome Portal would look over HDMI on it.

Work is work. I like what I do in general, but sometimes, the actual details annoy the shit out of me.

The poor kiddo can't decide if he wants to be on summer break or not. As much as he wants to stay home and play, the break in routine is killing him.

It seems I turn the life counter up by one in two weeks.

Anyone want, or know anyone who wants, an entertainment center in the DC area? I've tried to give it away on craigslist and no one seems to want it.

It's a solid piece of furniture, charcoal in color, and will take a 32" standard definition TV. It's got space for 19" AV gear as well as storage. This is not user assembled furniture. The unit is heavy and does not come apart. I hate to get rid of it, but we don't have a use for it now that we have the HD and it's just taking up space in my living room for now.

Picture can be found here:

It was a $500 piece of furniture, and now it's yours for the low low price of Get It Out Of My House.

Bring a truck, because as I stated above, it can't be taken apart.

So, I finally stepped in to the digital age. Wait, I did that long ago. Let me try again. I finally stepped in to the Digital TV age.

We bought a TV over the weekend, replacing our ~12 year old 26" 4:3 with a Mitsubishi Diamond WD-57833 57" HDTV.

I have to say, Aliens and Cars look fantastic on this thing, and I'll dig out Baraka and see how that looks next.

EDIT: Did you know the Playstation 2 had the option to output widescreen format? I was surprised when I looked on a whim and it was in there.

So, I'm here in the desert, and we're actually working on some very cool stuff. I can't really elaborate here, but [livejournal.com profile] prince_corwin would dig it.

The bad part is that most of the time, I'm incommunicado, but that's OK.

The Mojave is pretty, when it's not filled with the detritus of humanity. And human detritus for that matter. The empty parts are filled with wild desert flowers, Joshua Trees, and what will probably become tumble weeds.

Oh, and the church they filmed the opening scene of Kill Bill in? I drove by it today.

So I thought to myself: "Self, you've been lazy posting lately, and this is an easy way to generate some real content."

So, feel free to ask anything you want to know.

I may or may not answer (or I may answer with surreal inanity if it's a topic I'd rather not publicly go into). I will default to serious answers for what I am willing to disclose in this semi public forum.

All comments are screened, and will remain so unless otherwise requested. Answers will be posted in later posts with the original question unattributed unless you request otherwise.

Something is burning a few blocks north of the Capitol Building...and it's burning a lot.

We have a lovely view from here.

I so didn't want to come back to work this week.

At least it's a short week.

Life continues along normally.
