I had a lot of fun this weekend. I'd just like to thank [livejournal.com profile] publius1 for throwing his little shindig and let him know that [livejournal.com profile] robeli disputes his comment made while walking to get breakfast on Sunday.

It was good to see every one who made it. Some of you I haven't seen in a long time, others I hadn't met IRL previously at all. [livejournal.com profile] desdenova had previous plans, and couldn't join us unfortunately and [livejournal.com profile] dilickjm and his lovely wife [livejournal.com profile] hennyanya had to cancel, so I've yet to make their acquaintance. Another time then.

[livejournal.com profile] missysedai deviled some eggs and grilled some burgers. I think there might have been other food as well, but really, what else is necessary after that?

There may have been cake. Ice cream was possibly in attendance.

Much Guitar Hero [1|2] was played, and when people weren't being Rock Gods, Demigods, Heroes, or at least wannabes, they were being Gods of War. [livejournal.com profile] publius1's PS2 (Sony, not IBM) may never recover from the carnage.

[livejournal.com profile] melallen, [livejournal.com profile] pokeypenguin, [livejournal.com profile] aor, and I played a lot of 9 ball, 8 ball, team 8 ball, and cut throat. [livejournal.com profile] scifantasy made the occasional foray over to the table as well, and I saw [livejournal.com profile] montoya play at least once.

I'm positive some one, at some time over the course of the weekend, might have had a drink. Possibly two. I couldn't say with any surety.

Despite getting up before the sun yesterday, I still managed to miss my flight, but I made it on the next one standby, so it wasn't as bad as it could have been. It was a fitting cap to getting put on an earlier flight on Saturday, which then sat on the tarmac for almost two hours while ORD got sprinkled on. It's okay that you were still in zombie mode when I headed out Kenn. I wouldn't have been up either, except for that whole "I need to get to ORD by 8, and fuck, it's already twenty of 7" thing.

Just for the record, I got on a Brown line train at Wellington at 7:02 (I had to wait a bit, what with CTA being on a weekend/holiday schedule, and me getting up the stairs just as a train headed to the loop was leaving). I got off a Blue line train at ORD at 8:36. Google Earth informs me that this is a meager 16 miles by street. The El suffers from the same disease that makes the Metro a huge PITA. You can't get from anywhere to anywhere else without going to the center first (in DC, for fun, try to get from College Park to Silver Spring (6.6 driving miles) using the Metro).

[livejournal.com profile] robeli tells me that it would be easier (for me, and really, it's all about me) if you all came to my house.

I've just printed my boarding passes, I've checked in online, and I'm about to walk from the office to the Rosslyn Metro station. I'll see you kids in a few hours...

Do I book it?

I've got it open in another tab...all it wants is a credit card. Oh, and waiting a day gets me non-stop, that wasn't available yesterday, how cool is that? It shifts the travel by a day, but I get back early enough on Monday.

EDIT: Oh, and that's odd, it's the same price as the flight on another airline that has the layover at DTW, but the base price is higher, while the taxes and fees are lower (91 + 53 vs. 109 + 35).
