I dig having Big Ass Screen at home. I've been working my way through our DVD collection, and it's awesome. Surround sound, big screen, cheap snacks...I may never go to a theater again.
The only thing about going to the theater is the group experience of it. Having people over for movies doesn't quite encapsulate that, at least not for me.
Still, though? You're totally right about how awesome it is.
After paying $50 to see The Incredible Hulk this weekend and having it ruined by inconsiderate assholes (babies crying+ringing cell phones), home theaters are an attractive option. $50 = $21 tickets + $25 babysitter + $4 gas. Yes, when gas >= tip, it's time to factor it in to the price of going out.
